FAQ
What kind of music does the Chorale perform?
VIC programs are centered on major choral masterworks from the past four centuries. Highlights of recent seasons include Orff's Carmina Burana, Vaughan Williams’ Benedicite and Serenade to Music, Polovtsian Dances by Alexander Borodin, and the Mozart Requiem. The Chorale also regularly presents works by local composers, including residents of Vashon Island and the greater Seattle area. Please see “Concert Archives” for more information about past seasons.
Where?
The landmark Vashon Center for the Arts, aka Katherine L. White Hall or just the “Kay”, was first imagined as a performance venue for the Chorale. It was built in 2016 with a generous bequest from longtime Chorale member Kay White and has since become home to many island performing arts organizations. Over the years, the Chorale has enjoyed performing at many island venues, including Vashon Lutheran Church, Vashon United Methodist Church, Church of the Latter-Day Saints of Jesus Christ, St. John Vianney Catholic Church, the Burton Church, and Bethel Church. The Chorale has also performed at Ober Park, Chautauqua Elementary School, McMurray Middle School, Vashon High School, the O-Space, the Vashon Movie Theater, the Strawberry Festival, and summer concerts in the park, and has been featured on Voice of Vashon, the island’s local radio station.
Contingents of the Chorale have performed at Benaroya Hall; Carnegie Hall; and on an Argosy Christmas Ship Cruise.
When?
Regular concerts are scheduled each December and April. In addition, the Chorale sometimes holds Sing-Along Messiah events, New Year’s Eve concerts, 9/11 Memorial performances of the Mozart Requiem, and other special programs.
